Registry cleaner recommendations?
thread779-755465

s0121,

Regclean was pulled by Microsoft years ago from its download site for a good reason:

. Using an Intel P4 processor
. Using XP

The utility can damage your registry so that only a clean reinstall can repair the damage.

Please, use something else.

I have been testing and using Win95 Regcleaner an have had
NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. It does make a backup of all files that it cleans... it is also very readable...
I still recommend Win95 RegClean...even with Windows XP SP2 RTM-v.2180 .
I have tested it to remove left overs from: among others
Symantec, Nortons, Dr. Divx, Roxio, Zone Alarm, DVDDecrypter, Philip V-Stream, Cyberlink DVD5, Plus others
---------------Its FREE and it works very well for me------
others may test at there own RISK...

Microsoft RegClean 4.1a Utility program was developed by Microsoft for Win95, Win98, ME, to clean and repair Windows Registry errors. Since introducing Windows XP the free Regclean download program is no longer supported by Microsoft. It is NOT even available for download from Microsoft's website anymore.

Can you find it with a search engine: Yes
Should you use this tool: No. There are better alternatives
Can it hurt my computer: In Intel P4, or multiple CPU settings, the registry damage will require a complete reinstallation of the OS.

In my links above I listed several freeware and modestly priced sharware resources.

But I can sit idly by while member s0121 suggests using a non-supported utility that could damage a system to the extent it required repairs that invovle a total lost of user data and applications.

My aplogies, I was just so angry:

Yikes I never wanted to "Get anyone that UPSET"
copy and paste from RegClean4.1a
: FIXES FOR REGCLEAN 4.1a

- ALWAYS REPORTS ERRORS

RegClean will now report that it has found all the errors that
it can correct. Usually, you must run RegClean twice the first
time to get it to this point. This is expected behavior for
RegClean.

- CRASHES

RegClean should run correctly on these Intel-based operating
systems:

Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 (with Service Pack 3)
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (all versions) and later
Microsoft Windows 95 (all versions) and later
-----------------------------------------------------------
I have used this program on every version of Whistler that has been issued: I currently use it on my OS today: Windows XP SP2 v.2180-RTM I also recommend it to all "Users that I personally do computer work for". I find it VERY RELIABLE... But Use/Test it at your own RISK...
and ask every thing posted by Microsoft often says:
----------------------------------------
Thanks for using RegClean! We hope you find this utility useful.

I've used RegSupreme and found it to work very well.

s0121/Frank Smith,

I am not angry at you.
This is not a personal issue.

Microsoft should have done a better job with the utilities side of XP.

I have no issue with you. I have an issue with using regclean.exe

I backup my registry (program called"ERUNT") before any messing around with the registry.
