Hello All ... quick question ... We're using ArcServe for Windows 2000 v7.0.

When the registry of various machines are backed up the difference in "Total Size (Disk)" and "Total Size (Media)" is significant.

We could have a registry size of 18MB and on the media the size would be 340MB.

Any idea why? I've heard metadata is the reason for the size difference .. but ... 320MB of metadata???

Any insight?

Thanks,

kovacsa

hi

the only thing i can think of is as you say meta data but also if you have record database on every job , you would have to add on the database for that backup

hope this helps

we do test media jobs which just backup the boot.ini, this only take
36 mb disk and 46mb media, may want to check hardware compresion or software compresion settings

Have you been able to resolve this problem? My Registry backups are also many times larger on tape than disk. I just wanted to know if you ever found an answer to this.

Hey .. to the best of my knowledge all the additional data is just meta data, which ArcServe appends.

I worked around this by not including the registry in the backups (its not always nessesary).

Post again and ask specifically, you may get more helpful answers than what I can provide.

Thanks,
