If at site 1 you have G.711 to site 2

and from site 2 to site 1 you have G.729

what codec would be used?
 
First I don't think this is possible. I think if you change one side it will match it on the other side. But if you can, I would assume, it will be G.729. The phones can talk both and since the transmission is phone to phone the G.711 end probably will reset down to the G.729 end. But this is just a guess.
 
i have set this up. the codec that gets used is the one that starts the call.

Why would you do that in the first place? I don't see the benefit or any reason to it. But I might be missing something here.

 
I had a similar queston on a test i took. and I'm not sure if I got it correct or not.
 
Got to love CISCO's questions sometimes. I will look it up when I get a moment.
My point is if you are using one codec from site A to B it should be the same in reverse.

 
The call will only complete if both sites have both codecs. If that is the case then the codec that is used is the codec that has been configured at each site to initiate the call.
