Hello,

- is there a possibility to unselect the Refresh option "Default Database Logon Information" in CE10 by default? So when I import a new report CE should not select the database option by default.
- is there a way to unselect it for all imported reports at once (don't take this personal Turkbear: you said it's not possible, but you didn't know for sure, maybe someone does :) )

I'm thinking of buying .rpt Inspector, but when easy mass alterations with the .rpt Instector mean that I have to re-enter the database password for every changed report in Crystal Enterprise, a lot of the efficiency is lost.

Thanks, Jeroen.

Hi,
No offense taken..anyone who thinks he knows everything, knows nothing of importance..

I hope there is a way to do both, but, so far, have not found it within CE/BOE.

No, the Default "defaults" for refresh can't be altered.

You could use the SDK to write a small application that updates your DB connections after they are loaded - similar to the process that the PUBLISHING WIZARD uses when you first post a report.

JeroenBoon,

Thank you for your interest in .rpt Inspector Enterprise Suite. The premise of the tool is to work with multiple report objects (and their schedules/recurring instances and instances) at the same time.

To accomplish what you're looking to do is fairly quick and easy, but takes a little bit to explain. :)
1. After you've opened .rpt Inspector, in the tool open the report objects directly from your enterprise environment. .rpt Inspector builds an in-memory database of each report's objects and properties and all the meta-data (instances, schedules, etc.) that's stored in the enterprise CMS.
2. On the "Reports" tab in the "Objects" pane (bottom pane), Select all the reports you want to work with (what you select here or in the "Reports" tree pane affects what is displayed on the other tabs).
3. Go to the "Schedules" tab (if you don't see it, scroll the tabs until you do or resize the pane)
4. Each row in the grid on the "Schedules" tab displays the parent report objects (what's you'd see in the CMC when you click on an object) and if there are schedules/recurring instances, they will be displayed as a child node (this means you can **modify schedules/recurring instances!!**), so multi-select each row
5. right click on a row and from the pop-up menu's "Schedules" sub-menu select "Modify Schedule" (even if it's a parent object that doesn't have a schedule, it's ok because you're setting the defaults this way in that case, otherwise if you've selected a schedule/recurring instance then you're modifying it's values)
6. The dialog that opens up is organized a lot like the tabs of the CMC. **Be sure to set the radio button "Apply only changed" (otherwise the values from all other tabs in the dialog will be applied to all selected objects).
7. "There's a tab called "Refresh Options" which allows you to toggle on/off the "Default Database Logon Information"
8. There's also a tab called "Database" on which you can modify the password for ALL selected objects
9. Soon as you click on OK, the meta-data values are committed to enterprise

Note that since we can't read the value of the password, even if there's a password there or if it's blank, we display a blank (since we can't check if one is there - no API for that) even after you set it.

Also, we recently posted an updated getting started with .rpt Inspector primer that will help you with some very powerful concepts: At the end of the primer are a few links to additional step by step tips from modifying schedules to working with parameters, to modifying formulas, to taking your reports from DEV to QA to PROD, etc.

Hope this helps you and others looking to do the same. And sorry that it's a bit wordy, but doing the actual process is pretty quick.
