refresh fields

Is there a way to refresh 1 or 2 specific fields in a form? I have a form and I want to have an add button next to it where the user can go to a page and add a record in the database. They then should return to the form and the record needs to be listed in the drop down and all the other information they already filled out need to be there. If there is a better way to try and do this I am all ears.

If you want a record to be listed in a drop down, you can use cfselect:

What do you mean by refresh? When i hear this word, I think of the meta refresh tag, or some javascript thing. But, I don't think that's what you are asking about. Please explain.

You could use JavaScript to add an extra choice to the drop-down menu and then update the database upon submit. This would preserve the user's other form field entries.
