reference fields in MS Word 1

I have a drop-down list and a field which references this field. When I select from the drop-down list the refernece field is updated accordingly. However, if the select item is longer that the first item in the list, the referenced field in in a different font. e.g.

List : Red, Green, Orange, Purple

if i choose 'Red' the referenced field is ok

if 'Orange' the 'Ora' is ok but the 'nge' is in a different font

Any help appreciated.

defining field { REF FieldName \* CHARFORMAT }
