I am currently running Exchange 2000, and we have had a second T1 installed. I have configured a second Cisco PIX device NAT'ing to the internal IP of my Exchange server, (has 2 NIC's, 2nd T1 to 2nd internal ip.), and have port 25 open as well.

Here's the question,
Can I just add the second internal ip address in my SMTP Virtual Server?
Or do I create a second SMTP Virtual Server?

I need to have the second connection functional (as far as being able to telnet to port 25 to test the SMTP connection) prior to switching my MX record to the new, 2nd T1, then eventually, will remove the 1st T1 connnection.

Hope this made sense, cause I know what I'm talking about, but that don't mean I said it...

Thanks.

C'mon guys!

1 Exchange server
2 NICS
2 ISP's providing T1's
1 MX record pointed to NIC1 (fully functional)
Need to configure Exchange for 2nd NIC, 2nd ISP, only as far as being able to telnet to port 25, and send authenticated mail. (MX record to soon be pointed to this NIC)

?? suggestions ??

Thanks!!

try adding the internal address of the second Cisco as a default gateway for the second card. Technically it is multi homed. That should be all you need to do.

I have already added the internal address of the second cisco as the gateway for the second card. But when trying to telnet to port 25 on the public ip that is pointed to the second NIC, I get no response. I am able to ping external IP associated with 2nd NIC from ISP router, and ping to internal address of 2nd NIC from my router.

Telneting from outside via DOS prompt, no response, telnet window closes, telnet from ISP's router (cisco 1720), recieve response that connection closed by foriegn host.

I am assuming that the SMTP Virtual server will not respond to request via the second NIC, unless I add it's IP address to the SMTP Virtual Server.

thanks for any suggestions.
