I was suppose to add some space in Logical volume A but I added it in e.g LV-B (It is in use I cannot remove it) . Now I need to reduce LV-B to original size so that I can use this space to increase LV-A. I donot know how to reduce the logical volume.

Thanks

Ouch, in AIX 5.3 you can shrink FS/LV on the fly, but not in AIX 5.2. Unfortunately this will require an outage. You need to backup, blow away, recreate, and restore to claim back that space. :-(

yes I know this. Anyway how I can do it in 5.3 (FMI)

I assume you have a filesystem on the LV. You would use the chfs command with the -a flag and specify the new, smaller size. It will automatically shrink the LV for you.

And you can also now defragment your VG ... welcome in windows !! :)))
