Reduce ISDN Channels on NEAX SOPHO 2000 IPS 1

Hello,

Our office has reduced in size and we are not heavy phone users, as a result, it was decided to reduce the quantity of ISDN channels used by the PBX from 15 to 8 (this is on a single ISDN30 line).

This change has been carried out on the IDSN line already and calling in to the office works fine all the time.

However, when calling out from the office, there is a small problem. A user picks up the phone and dials, nothing happens, this goes on for a few attempts, then they try to dial out and it works a few times.

I have figured that the reason for this is, the PBX is "cycling through" the ISDN channels. So dialing out works 8 times in a row while it picks up the working 8 ISDN channels, then after this, dialing out fails 7 times in a row while it tries to pick up the remaining ISDN channels (when there were previously 15 working ISDN channels on the line) that are no longer in operation on the line, then the cycle starts again with 8 calls working, etc.

I am not a MatWorX person at all so would appreciate some instructions on how to program the PBX to try only 8 ISDN channels all the time, instead of the 15 that it is currently trying to use.

Using the MatWorX program you can either busy out the unused trunks, or place the unused trunks into a different trunk group. In either case you will need to know what the trunk numbers are.
Use CMD 3000 to place them into another trunk group. You will need to know what the trunk numbers are and what group they are currently in. EX: (PRI trunk numbers 100-123, 123 is the D channel) using the MOC mode.
3000>122>31=>50 EXE. Do this for all unused trunks.
Use CMD E51 to busy out the trunk.
Same sample trunk numbers, E51>122>1=>0 EXE. Do this for all unused trunks.
Finding out what your trunk numbers are is a little more involved. There is no good list out for this.
Visually inspect the PRI card and note what the rotory switch is set to. (4,5,6,7=9,A,B ext).
Go to CMD 050 and place the number of the switch here, 050>06> 09 = T-1 card, 12 = PRI card.
Then use CMD 0701>0600> = trunk number ex: 0701>0600>D100-D123 = trunk numbers.
You might consider getting a trained tech in to do all of this.

Sense wheel is set to 4, so CMD 0701>0400~0423 should show your trunk numbers.

I clearly do not know what I am doing as I try different combinations and cannot get it right, I will need to call a tech.

On the odd chance the original installer used the upper highway, try 0701>2000>
Lower highway is 04-15
Upper highway is 20-31, due to a switch setting on the card.
Here is another way to determine what trunk numbers are, place a call on the PRI, then go to CMD E8> extension number > = trunk you are on.
E8 is a one shot snapshot of the tk/station you are on. It should show you the trunk number you are on.

From the use of the word Sopho, I assume you are in the UK and so where Belvededre said....

Sense wheel is set to 4, so CMD 0701>0400~0423 should show your trunk numbers.

it would actually be 0400-0431.

Just make sure you don't busy out the D channel!

Hi OzzieGeorge and belevedere,

Thank you both, I am getting there. You are indeed correct, I am in the UK.

I have made multiple outgoing calls from extension 191 and noted the results in MOC while the call is connected, which are as follows:

F9
COMMAND=E8
E8>191
E8>191025

Then repeating the above I get: D025, D026, D027, D028, D029, D030, D031, D032 so the calls succeed 8 times which are the 8 ISDN channels I have in operation, then the next 7 outgoing calls fail which are the cancelled 7 channels (as said, we moved from 15 to 8 channels last week), then it starts succeeding again from D025.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know the commands to run in order to get only the D025 to D032 channels working and leaving the other 7 channels out? Without busying out the D channel (whatever this is, but it sounds bad).

go to CMD 3000>000> see what if any trunk route trunk number 000 is in. Step through CMD 3000 until you get to trunk number 025. Trunk 025-032 should be in the same trunk route. Leave them there. Any other trunks in that route should be moved to an unused trunk route. Something like route 60. The D channel trunk should be a separate route by itself. Leave it there.

I presume that these are the original 15 channels all in :01
And I know now that the channels that are in use are 025 to 032 (from your help previously using E8)

Would you mind giving me the command to run to remove the other trunks (033 to 039) that are assigned to :01 ?

Sorry to have to ask again, I need them removed but can't afford to mess the rest of the system up.
