I have an intranet web page that comes up by visiting \\servername\intranet.

How can I make it so that the user can just type "intranet" in the address bar and bring up the intranet site? I know I can do this in DNS to direct to a specific IP address, but I dont know how to go further and direct to a specific folder.

I am using IIS....is that where the secret lies? I admit I dont yet understand all of the IIS functionalities

You have to save it as a favorite and title it "Intranet". The easyiest thing to do is set a policy on the server so everyone's home page is automatically directed there. Then all the user has to do is hit the home button.

Create a new website and name it MyWebsite and copy your files to it. In DNS add a host record called MyWebsite and point it to the address of the webserver. IIS knows to route the request to MyWebsite.
