We have a user who would like all calls from our security desk directed to his assistant. He does not want all of his calls directed to his assistant, nor do others in the organization want similar call handing. I am using Site Administration 6.0 and we are running a S8800.

Any thoughts?

Effectively looking to accomplish the following. For all calls placed from extension 1111 to extension 2222, reroute to extension 3333.

Thanks!

Maybe a bridged apperance would work better for you

Unfortunately not, the individual does not want to be disturbed by calls from the security desk at all.

you can make it so that it flashes only, just a thought

Is it possible to set it to flash only for calls from one specific extension? The user would like his phone to function normally with the exception to calls from the one extension.

no can not be done

Thanks. I think the answer the problem likely is to implement a vector, but my experience there is pretty limited.

What if you changed the CORs on the executive's extension and the security desk extension and disallowed calls from the security desk to his phone? I know that doesn't forward to his secretary, but it prevents them from calling him and might train them to call his secretary instead.

That is definitely a good option, although it would result in some extra work for the security staff. Maybe they'll learn with time.

Anyone comfortable with vectors? Can they be used to accomplish this task? Any suggestions or guidance?

need more exact info on what you are trying to do here.

Sure, thanks!

I would like all calls placed from Extension 1111 (Security Desk) to Extension 2222 (Executive) rerouted automatically to Extension 3333 (Executive's Assistant). I would like all other calls placed to Extension 2222 (Executive) to function normally.

Thanks!

Ok then do as stinney suggest, you will need a unique cor for security, deny calling to the cor of 2222 (executive)on page 2 of cor form but this will deny ext 1111 calling 2222 but WILL NOT reroute to extension 3333. maybe someone else has a work around for that piece.

Thinking out loud...

Give Exec extn 4444.

Create VDN 2222 and map to a vector
if ANI is in table1, route to 3333
Else, route to 4444

vector routing table 1 (vrt1) would obviously include any number you didn't want to bug security.

Basically use a vector as a filter to the effect of "go to exec unless you called from security).

Immediate caveats: I know vector routing tables can filter by ANI - so based on matching area code you can send calls to a "closed" message as of 5PM local time to your caller. I don't know if they work at the station level that way, but it might.
If its only ANI from public network and security has a DID, you can use VDN1111 to route the call to a PSTN number with another VDN that checks ANI if its the only way. Don't get me wrong, its dumb to use 2 PSTN trunks to make a call, but when you're a PBX admin stuck with a problem and leveraging what you know - VRTs, incoming-call-handling-treatment tables, pub/priv unknown numbering tables, you can usually come up with an inelegant solution to satisfy one person!

Thanks everyone.

To confirm, in order for the vector solution to work, the executive would have to have two extensions assigned to him, his existing extension 2222 and then a bridged appearance extension 4444.

Correct?

Thanks!

Well, the way I envisioned my response, extension 2222 would no longer be a station but a VDN.
to say, 2222 would map to the vector/call script that says "are you calling from security? Yes, go to ass't, no, ring 4444"

Remember, extensions are digit strings you can dial, and not necessarily phones - they usually are phones, but can also be hunt groups, VDNs, all sorts of other things can be dialed as extensions
