I tried 3 || 4 times to install RH 8.0 on a PII PC .
Downloaded the ISO-s from ftp RedHat, checked with md5summ writen on CD_s, everyting was fine , the 1.CD booted
just fine , the mediacheck return good result , but after several frames always ended with : uncompression error end in the
dump file with:

File "/usr/lib/anaconda/packages.py", line 628, in doInstall
"transaction set type %d",
rpm404.error: cannot open
The Bugzilla is full with this kind of error , bur the answer is ... Who knows ..
Regards, Ati

that sux man. I just installed it myself. I didnt have any problems like that. It just installed I only did one media check on the first cd and skiped it for the others cuz it was taking a while. I'm stuck in the simplest of problems. cant get winamp to open. heh... Well hope someone helps ya out. IN the mean while I'll see what I can search for ya.

Let's narrow the error :
When the installation stop I switched to 4th colsole and
there are lots of:
ERROR -3 error decompressing file c15454545 (the number has some meaning , but I have NO IDEA !!!)

Just for posterity's sake, the RH8 install may be having trouble with the RPM database located in /var. I had a similar problem, checking the other consoles revealed that it was having trouble with the RPM database. Removed everything from /var except the data I wanted to retain, and it installed perfectly.

My problem stemmed from not formatting the partion that had /var on it. I didn't want to loose the data. Might want to check if you are formatting your partions. You could have a corruption occuring.

Of course, none of this matters now anyway because no one is going to be installing 8, now that 9 is here and 9+, 10 or whatever it will be is in beta.
