Hi,

I have this strange error on a lot of my Win2K workstations. Here's the scoop: I run a 30 user network with most people running Win2K Pro on their desktops ( a few NT workstation and XP systems as well) and everyone connects/logins to our NT Server PDC. However, on some of the Win2K machines, a red X will appear every so often on one or more of the network shares from the server(s). For example...we run Goldmine CRM software and everyone has a mapped drive Z:\Goldmine to run it from. This mapping will randomly display a red X even though the drive is completely accessible. The real annoyance is that every once in while, the drive becomes inaccessible and saving files to it fails. After a few tries...it comes back. And sometimes the X disappears and sometimes it just stays there. Very bizarre! Any ideas??? Anyone?

thnx

This behavior can occur because both Windows NT Server version 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server can drop idle connections after a specified time-out period, which by default is 15 minutes.

To resolve this behavior, use a command to change the default time-out period on the Windows NT Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server: At a command prompt, type: net config server /autodisconnect:30 .

The valid value range to configure this setting from a command line is from -1 through 65,535 minutes. To disable Autodisconnect, set it to -1 .

Thanks tons!!!

I'll give it a whirl first thing in the morning.
