I have just installed Red Hat 9 (Server Installation) Nowhere in the install did it ask me for a userid and password. I gave it the root password only, Now I cannot login to the server keep getting a login failed on any combination of ID and password. Any suggestions?

You have to create the id. Log in through the console as root, not tty(telnet).

I think by default redhat restricts anyone explicitely logging in through a tty as root. From there you should be able to add users.

Thanks for the reply, Forgive but i'm new to Linux, how do I login to the console as root?

you have a keyboard and mouse and monitor hooked up to that thing right? Just start it up into init 3(desktop), and use the administration tool in the gui. (or command line if you prefer)

At the logon screen for user type "root" and at password type the password you configured it with.

Thanks Franklin, You are AWESOME!!!! Mind if I contact you for some other issues?
