hey every1
I have installed red hat 7.0 on my computer, and i am dual booting with windows 98.
i have installed red hat 7.0 before on my machine and it has worked fine! but i have a a new bigger (but older) HD now, and when i used fips to make the partition i made 10 gig partition for win and 9 for RH, the partition is after the 1024th cylinder tho, and i have heard something that says you should make the partition before the 1024th cylinder???

neway, i loaded red hat on this 9gig partition and fter it installed (fine) it gets to boot when lilo should appear, but it does not, and windows boots immediately! :(
How or what can i do to get red hat to work on my machine, i love it, but need windows as well.

any and all comments welcome!!
thanks y'all

Hi,

Most probably you installed lilo in the linux partition rather than in the master boot record. You just need to boot into linux via floppy (you did make one ?!) or use the CD and type 'linux rescue' to the boot: prompt -

boot: linux rescue

Once you get in to the linux system, you then need to edit /etc/lilo.conf and change the 'boot=' bit so it reads

boot = /dev/hda

Then re-install it by (as root):

/sbin/lilo -v

After that lilo should be in the master boot record on the first drive and should appear when you reboot.

Hope this helps

If that's a bit complicated for u, then do what i did.

Install Redhat again on the second partition, but this time make sure u install LILO to the MBR( Master Boot Record).

If u have any problems, there's a detailed run through of how to do it at the following site:
