I'm receiving an error message that says:
Windows cannot find recycled.vxd. This program is needed for opening files of type 'Registration Entries'.

I am trying to install the ODBC driver ODBCNT\odbcnt.reg. I have done this at least 20 times on different PC's within our offices and never received this message. I can not locate this recycled.vbx file anywhere. I have checked the users pc, my pc, common network drives and Microsoft Knowledge Base for tech support. Has anyone heard of this file and if so know where I might obtain a copy of this file???

O.K. so I had 2 blonde moments yesterday. The correct file name is recycled.vxd. Sorry for the confusion. Kathie

Ok. I know EXACTLY what you mean. Ok. So, Exactly what version of Windows? Exactly when do you get the error?

I don't have that file, which is curious, but who knows!

If you get another blonde moment, take two aspirin and go shoot yourself. Haha! Sorry. Just kidding.

The PC that this occurs on is running Windows NT. I get the error when I double click on the file ODBCNT.REG. In the past when I have done this after running ODBCNT.REG, a message appears that ODBC entries have been to the registry and I need to reboot.

Now, whenever I have double-clicked a *.reg file, I've always been warned not to have any programs open, blah, blah. Is this something that could be running in the background? I might end task on everything except Explorer and Systray and then double-click it again while Explorer is the only thing open.

Thanks for the response, I closed everything up and I received the same message. Anything else you can think of to try?

Fresh out, kclose. Really sorry! I thought that between the two of us we'd make one solid blonde that could answer this question! Haha!

Does anybody have the filed called recycled.vxd. When trying to launch a software program (Complete Spanish Learning Suite) that I had just loaded, I got the error pop-up message re: illegal operation.... The software company sent me a fix-it file called AVIFile.reg. After double-clicking on it I got the error message "Windows can't find recycled.vxd" I've had friends search their computers for this file with no success. I'm hoping that someone out there has it.

Don't have a clue as to what recycled.vxd is but could it have something to do with the Recycle Bin?

If you do a search from yahoo for the filename recycled.vxd, it is the file regedit.exe, which has been renamed and placed in the recycle bin as recycled.vxd. Why has it been renamed? By a virus. Look it up. I saw many returns on that search--they all talk about virus. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word
