Hey all

I know that Microstrategy does not support RECURSIVE HIERARCHIES. But can someone guide me (a URL)to a place where I can have more conceptual details on "Recursive Hierarchy". Also, How do we overcome Recursive Hierarchy using MSTR?

Any kind of explanation/URL is highly appreciated. Thank you all.

Leo

There is a technote on Microstrategy's support site that list some limitations of modeling in Microstrategy and recursive hierarchies is one of them. There is a good explanation on how to overcome those issues. The technote is TN5200-7X0--0123

Head to the MSTR KnowledgeBase for technotes on this topic. The root of their workaround will be some rework of your data model, and changes to the schema objects. Even after this, you won't have exactly what you want.

Last year I asked them to develop a new report object or interface element that essentially treats dimensional hierarchies like Windows Explorer treats directory hierarchies. They could upgrade the "outline" mode feature to essentially place expansion markers beside each dimensional level if there is another level below it, or no marker if you have reach the bottom of the level.

Don't expect this any time soon, though.

Yah, recursive hierarchies are not natively supported by MicroStrategy. The recommendation for these types of schemas is to explode the schema from recursive to dimensional splitting the data into several tables, one for each level in the hierarchy.
