Running on NW7.2.1, Win Server 2003.

My backups have been running fine for a couple of months now, but today, i noticed, when I went into the GUI Recovery the 3 drives listed had yellow question marks and had no plus next to them to expand them.

I manually started a backup on one of the drives from NW admin, and when it had finished I check in the recovery gui again, this drive now had the plus and i could browse it okay.

Does anyone know what could have caused this, and how i could fix it without running another backup?

I have just noticed this issue only seems to be on the client which is a storage node.

Also if i change the browse time, one drive which show me files to browse but then another one wont.

I need Help

The second issue is obvious: if you change the browse time too early, then NW will probably not have a browsable backup at this time.

However, for the first problem, i can only guess that your file index may be defective.

- What does "nsrls clientname" show?
- What does "nsrck clientname" return?
- Do these results make sense?

nsrls client name returns the folowing

24073223 records requiring 3917MB and 100% utilised

nsrck returns

same number of recs occuppying 3917MB

im not sure what this tells me

have you ever seen the yellow question marks in the NW user recovery window?

So there are in fact entries in your CFI. 24+ Mio entries which use almost 4 GB of space.

I assume the media index is o.k. as well, otherwise NW would have deleted these entries from the CFI.

No - i have never seen such question mark. And it does not seem to be documented as well.

Worst case you can recover your index with "nsrck -L7 client".

Thanks for the info I wil try the nsrck shortly.

I have just tried to do a restore for a file which I am able to browse, however in the NWAdmin Mnoitor tab I get the message, File, Directory or label syntax does not exist. Does this mean anything to you?

No. But this would probably point to the fact that the media index is defective. If NW can not even find a tape label any more...

It is really hard to give aou a clear advice not sitting next to you.

It turns out the file, directory message is related to a faulty drive, i tried a backup which tried to use tape3, which gave the same error.

I disabled the drive and tried the restore again and it worked.

So it looks like i just hae the index issue, which i will run the nsrck -L7 to try and resolve.

Thanks for your help (again) 605.
