Hello,

I've read the FAQ and looked at similar questions on how to boot in single mode and change the root password. Only problem is it isn't working on the machine that I have.

FAQ say to boot machine and break on the way in. This works fine (machine is running BootROM Version 1.6). I then do a "boot pri isl" and this drops me to the ISL prompt. Again we are going well (ISL Revision is A.00.34 Mar 20, 1994) Next step is to do a "hpux -is" and this is were things come unstuck.

What I briefly see is "Secondary Loader 9000/700/ Revision 3.08" then the screen clears back to the ISL prompt. If I just do a "hpux" then server boots fine but I then get back to the console login username/password which I have no idea what it is as it is a hand-me, hand-me down. HP-UX version is A.09.05.

Has anyone seen this before and if so what is the fix? I also tried "hpux-is" from the ISL prompt but this fails. Is there a way to boot off a floppy or something similar or is there another OS I can put on it without too much trouble.

Thanks in advance

GBob

Hello:

In the ISL try the following:
hpux (;0)/SYSBCKUP

Best regards,
Mario.

Thanks for the responses:

ISL> hpux -is boot

and I'm in :)

Tried the second one also but received an error.

Cheers

GBob
