Operating system is Windows XP Media Centre 2002 (SP2).

I downloaded a JPG image from my camera to a folder on my computer. I then opened the JPG in PaintShop Pro 7. (This was immediate, so there is no automatic system restore file earlier.) Having rotated the image 90degrees I then did a save. To my surprise the image was then 67kbyte, compared to 900kbyte. On re-opening the picture it was horribly reduced in quality. Notwithstanding the obvious, that I should have backed it up before editing, is the original recoverable? The thing is, it has been over-written rather than deleted. Hence it is not available in the recycle bin.

Download it from your camera again. The file on your system is now unrecoverable to the original version.

I deleted it from the camera immediately after downloading to the computer :)

I also tried the camera's XP memory card to see if it would fit in one of the many slots in my computer. No deal.

You should focus on trying to recover it from the camera's media then. Don't take any new pictures until you attempt that.

Job done. Thank you.

I used FreeUndelete 2.0

The (USB interface) camera maps as a drive, so there was no problem undeleting the file.

I tried "recover my files" first, but after the 7MB download (on dialup) for a free trial, I did not realise it finds the file then requires you to buy the package for $70.

Glad to help.
