recordset returning only zeros

i'm working on setting up a simple web-based DB through Oracle 8.5.1 (first time). all information is being inserted into the DB properly, however, when querying the DB, any number values (except those set as chars) are returned back to the recordset fields as zeros. this is true for anything entered in as textboxes or selectboxes.

i double checked to see if the info was being inserted into the proper fields and it is. the only problem is displaying the recordset data properly
