We have an excel workbook on a work server that multiple users are able to access and edit the macros on. I'm looking for a way to record the revisions that a user may make, so that other macro monkeys know what has been changed and how to account for it. Is there a way to insert a simple text file into the project that could be used to keep general information and revision history? Does someone have any other ideas on how to go about this, other than hiding a spreadsheet within the work book? I suppose I could also just add another module, but having to put a ' by every line would get annoying.

You want to automatically record the revision history? If so, use something like sourcesafe or another source control app. That way everyone will have to provide notes when they check it out.

Yikes. "other macro monkeys know what has been changed and how to account for it. "

Sounds like a recipe for confusion and disaster.

Do not use SourceSafe. Even Microsoft did not use it internally for their own stuff. It is also rather bloated and confusing for what you describe.

Subversion:
Its great for source control with any kind of file....and free!! It looks a little complicated to get started but its actually pretty simple and can be used for source control of pretty much anything - so excel files won't be a problem.
