We recently had our main greeting professionally made. In the past we recorded it ourselves using one of the phones. I can not get the new .wav file to play properly through the IP Office system (it is slowed down so much that it sounds like a demon speaking :)

We are using the latest release of v3.2 (think it's .55) Does anyone have a an idea how to make this work? I have tried rencoding the wave file about a dozen different ways. Most of the resulting files don't even play and force the caller into our default queue.

I noticed that the files recorded directly into the IP Office (we have a 406) are 128Kbps, 16 bit, mono, 8kHz, PCM files. That can't be reproduced using Sound recorder or another program I found. Everything but the 128Kbps can be done but that bit rate doesn't mesh.

Thanks for the help guys. And thanks for being here. I had no idea there was an IPOffice forum. Boy have I needed this.

Your are correct in saying that sound wav files for VMpro have to be 16bit 8khz mono PCM.

But your incorrect about saying sound recorder cannot convert other wav files to this format. Open your professionally made wav files within sound recorder and click file, properties, convert now and select the above settings and save the file.

Goodluck!

Get a PC with a sound card. put your telephone handset next to the speakers.

Now, click the Vm to record the greeting through the handset and play it through the speakers.

job done.

Now I am going to go outside and leave site eith my spurs on and riding my horse into the sunset!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply guys. I am reserving the "play a set of speakers into the phone" method as my very last option.

I need to clarify my point about Sound Recorder. I tried using serveral different configurations to convert the wave in Sound Recorder. I realize it's functionality AND its limitation:

None of the presets yield a 128kbps bit rate which seems to be a key feature of the functioning codec.

Wait a miniute . . . scrap that last paragraph. In the process of trying to gather exact specs to show you what the different conversion presets yield I converted the file to a working format. I wish I could explain why the 8.000kHz, 16bit, mono setting didn't yield a 128kbps file last night, and does now but . . . that's what happened. I worked on this for hours yesterday because I couldn't get the new wave to work.

Anyway I was right in my explanation that the .wav file must be a 128kbps, 16bit, mono, PCM file. After that I don't know what else to say.

Thanks for replying.

Is there a way to make a short code go directly to an autoattendant greeting for recording? I know that you can do that for a mailbox. How about a module i.e. attandant day/night etc. -- instead of the pc.

make a shortcode

*100
voicemail collect
"modulename"

in vmpro make a condition with a edit playlist action
make aconnection between the startpoint and the playlist action

dial the shortcode and record it

Yes.

Create a module that uses the edit play list action.

You could create a menu that say press one to record the day AA message, 2 to record the night AA message etc etc

each of those menu options would route to a different edit play list action that would let you re record that wav.

Oh. I was looking at the "record name" feature. Thanx and here is your star.

One more question. Can you have a directory for first and last name? I made menu item for first name press 1 last name press 2. Then in the dial by name box i selected one for first name and one for last name. is that possible? I cant see where to put the first and last name in the ip office manager. If i put in in the user field "name" will it know to user first and last name? it is pretty annoying that everytime you make a change it resets the mailbox.

i don't know about the dial by name
i thought it was not possible to do it by first or last name
but i am not sure

Yes, you can do dial by first name and last name.

ctvi - You are started on the right track with one menu selection for first name and one for last name. The name it will use is the one in the "User" field. The first name comes first. You are limited to the number of characters in the user name so most of the time I fill in the "Full Name" field. It will use that field if you fill it in and it will allow you to use the entire name. Be sure the first and last name is separated by a space.

Voicemail creates accounts based on the user's name. That's why it resets their voicemail every time you change their name.

I just test it on my own switch and it appears that it does not reset if you add the Full Name Field.

Yes, the Full Name field should be First Name Last Name.
