I cannot download information into Access 97 tables. Receiving the error "Cannot access record. Record locked by another user." Noone is locking/accessing/using/updating any records/tables during time of download. I need to find a way to clear record locks. Any idea of what's causing this error or how to fix?

Look for a .LDB file in the directory that the database is stored in. If no one is in the database, and one exists, you can delete it. Sometimes, when Access errors out, this file is not removed.

BTW, you can open the .LDB with notepad to find out who is locking the database...

Hope that helps.

Ever notice that by the time that you realize that you ran a truncate script on the wrong instance, it is too late to stop it?

Already tried the .ldb - noone is locking the database. It's a 'locked record' that's causing the error - yet noone has access to lock any records (records are being downloaded directly - no data entry). If I open the database exclusively there aren't any errors - only if I open the database in a shared status.

Terry, I have a question for you - I do not have any security set up on one of my databases - If I go into notepad under the .ldb - How do I look up the result with the actual user? For example, I get "FEB2K" as the user in notepad?

Thanks for your help!!!
