All,
I set up my shared database to have edited record level locking.

Here are the steps I took to do this:

1. Tools / Options / Advanced tab

2. Selected Edited record and selected Open databases using record level locking.

I found out today from a user that the record she had opened was being modified by another user.

How could this happen?

Is there something else I need to be doing?

Please help if anyone can.

Thanks in advance.

Locking locks the record for editing, not for viewing. You should see a little 'no entry' sign in the selector bar of a locked record when you try to change it.

Ok, how would I lock the record from being modified when someone else is in the record?

Can you help me with that?

I believe you would need to code this yourself. Add a key to a table of viewed records, say or set a field when a record is accessed.
