I have a Merlin Magix system with ETR-18 phones. Someone here has a need to record a phone conversation. What's the easiest-cheapest way to do this? I'd prefer to have it digitally recorded, on a PC as a wav file, but don't know how complicated this is. I think those cheap recorders from Radio shack only work on analog type phones.

Is there a device for these digital type phones? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

If my memory serves me, the Merlin Messaging (R4) will allow users to record calls if the license being used is for 4 or more ports.

When it comes to recording phone conversations, laws vary from state to state. Check and make sure that you are in compliance with your state's laws.

Thanks so much, I think I'll go with the little device thing. Although that does say that it works only on single line phones. I'm assuming that it will not work on a Avaya phone? The phones here are Avaya multi-line phones, but I think I have an Avaya single line phone, but it still runs through our phone system.

As for the laws, this person is being advised by a law enforcement official to do this, so I guess they have a reason for it.

I think the recording through the merlin messenging announces to the other caller that they're being recorded, which wouldn't work in this case.

If the unit is made to work on a single line telephone, that tells me that it will work only on an analog telephone line.

If the person will be using a 4400 series telephone, you will run into problems. The phone will need to be connected to a port on a 016 T/R module or a port configured as T/R on a 016 ETR module.

Try One of my customers chose this unit because of similar needs. They wanted to dump conversations straight into a PC as WAV files, plus they wanted the interface to be simple and elegant. The interface that I refer to is the Off/On/Record controller box (which sits on the desk) that is clean and uncomplicated.
