Does anyone know of a way to make a Sun system recognize a tape drive without a reboot? I know you can run drvconfig and disks to recognize a new disk and was hoping there is something similar for a tape drive.

I too had similar problem.. When i run that command, after a few secs it jus shown another # thats all...
When i tried to see the /dev/rmt/0 nothing is visible..

How to see the contents of the tape drive. And any handy commands to write the folders /usr1/presents into that tape drive ?

Thanks in advance

They should actually be three separate commands I believe:

[tt]drvconfig
devlinks
tapes[/tt] Annihilannic.

I also found a script that will reconfigure all devices without a reboot.

#!/bin/csh
#
# script to do live reconfiguration of device drivers
#
/usr/sbin/drvconfig
/usr/sbin/devlinks
/usr/sbin/disks
/usr/sbin/ports
/usr/sbin/tapes
/usr/sbin/audlinks
/usr/ucb/ucblinks
