Reconfigure 7.6 Secondary server for 10.x Server Group? 1

I have a lot of 7.6 and 8.0 primary and secondary servers set up in several different Antivirus server groups. Its like someone went nuts installing every server as a SAV server back when this was originally set up instead of just installing the client. We are looking to migrate all of the 7.6/8.0 and even 9.0 servers and their clients to one new 10.x server group.

I know I can drag and drop the older primary and secondary servers into the new 10.x server group but I was looking to automate this using group policy and a script to make sure I get all servers/workstations in the domain. I can reconfigure the clients easily enough by copying the GRC.DAT from the new 10.x primary server to the clients and they show up in the 10.x console but this does not seem to work for the SAV servers.

Can you reconfigure primary and secondary servers from another server group using the GRC.DAT method? Or is the only answer to drag and drop them using the 10.x console? When I copy the GRC.DAT to the same location as on clients (e.g. %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5) and restart the Norton Antivirus Server service, it doesn't read in the GRC.DAT.

Primary and secondary servers do not work in the client fashion with grc.dat files ni that respect. If I was you I would do the follwing to fix your environment. Without knowing how many clients and servers you have, this will be very basic.

- Install 10.1.6 on one server as your primary server.
- create a login script to copy 10.1.6 grc.dat file to all workstations run CE client.
- Create a script to upgrade all 7.x. 8.x, 9.x clients to version 10.1.X via the new servers VPHOME share.
- Remove old server versions. Install client version on all of those servers.

NOTE: This all depends on the size of your environment. If a large number of clients, simply create and distribute the work load amongst multiple servers. \

I figured I would have to reinstall those servers as clients but I was hoping there would be an easier way to mass move those servers into the new AV group. I can drag and drop them into the group but that only helps when I can see the server groups and with as many remote locations as we have, I'm not entirely sure they are all discoverable. The steps you provided were pretty much the same plan that I had in mind going forward so its great to see that plan of action confirmed. Thanks for the input!

cool, make sure since your kind of redoing this job to get all servers and clients to version 10.1.6.6010 which is the latest
