I am going to Ghost my Windows XP Home installation, after I do a clean install of it and all my programs. I am going to install this software:

Windows XP Home (including all updates)
Office (including all updates)
Frontpage (including all updates)
Netscape 6.22
real one player
shockwave
Sun Java


What other software do you recommend for just browsing the internet or that is essential to have?

Do you recommend installing Zonealarm free verson? I have ADSL and my computer is behind a hardware NAT router.

does panda antivirus protect against trojans?

Virus software mainly concentrates on viruses. They do detect some Trojans and Worms, but only a small percentage.

Have a look at this site to get an idea of what's out there on the internet and what you can do to protect yourself.

Free firewall - Zonealarm

These are as good as MacAfee/Norton, if not better - no bloat.

You can upgrade to the paid versions for a small price - for additional support.
