I am preparing a new ghost for industrial production lines. It is a P4 3 Ghz with hyperthreading, 2 x 80 Gb hardware RAID 1 drives, 512Mb DDR. It uses a custom made intensive application.

It has XP SP2 installed.

Can anybody recommend any patches or updates since SP2 that i really should install... i.e. urgent fixes, security issues etc... but that wont slow down the PC . Or on the contrary, any that i really should avoid?

I think genuine advantage will be one to avoid (even though we have a group licence and are 100% legal and covered in that respect.). I dont want the PCs complaining that WGA cannont connect to the Internet, maybe this Windows is not valid....... :-/
Thanks for any help...

David

The only ones I refuse are the Genuine Advantage one you mention, and all those Malicious Software Diagnosing tools, which seem to go back for months with different versions for each month, and seem to think if you don't want one particular month you ought to have another month's version.

Dump Windows Update, use alternatives

Genuine Advantage is Microsoft spyware

To auto-update or not to auto-update

When Automatic Updates can be harmful

thanks...

in the meantime, to enable updates, it stuck me with the WGA tool.
i'll wait for spyware remover to get rid of it for me :)
