Hey everybody.

I was wondering if anyone out there can recommend me some alternative large-scale email spam filter applications and/or servers that are proven to be reliable.

My organization currently uses ESAFE, an app developed by a company called Aladdin that resides on a Win2K3 Server. (It also has a version for a Linux machine which we are looking into). I was asked by my supervisors to ask around & see what other systems are highly recommended by other organizations since our ESAFE really isn't cutting the mustard lately. The app seems to have stopped retreiving updates at scheduled times and is allowing easy spam to pass through its filter for no reason.

If anyone could recommend me some alternatives I would appreciate it greatly.

We use NetIQ's Mail Marshal, it's pretty good and has proven very reliable. We currently have an old version (v4) installed which lacks a lot of the features in the newest version (most notably in the new version there's a web interface so users can check and release their own inbound blocked emails - this to me is vital for any enterprise class mail filtering gateway).

I assume both of these products are server-based products that filter at the gateway level. Do any of these have a client-based application that helps control spam at the mailbox level?

I guess I'll stop being lazy and go look... :)

We don't offically support it but a few people here use SpamBayes which seems to work well. Personally I rarely get spam passed through our gateway filter so haven't bothered installing a client anti-spam product.

I agree with NickFerrar, Mail Marshal is a great product.
I recently implemented it for a large Korean electronics company which worked a treat. Version 6x has a lot of new features which really help to manage and control spam and just about anything else you want it to. It also has an interface that lets users manage their own block messages which is nice.
The reporting features of the product are also quite good.
I had to soak test it with other products such as mailsweeper and mail marshal was easily the best product for the job.
The only problem I found with it was it treated some emails written in Korean as spam as it didnt understand some of the characters! This was soon resolved though. Otherwise an excellent product.
