Hi,

I am looking to learn Java as I need to know it for my university course. Does anybody have any suggestions for a book suitable for a beginner

Thanks,

Jon

Just JAVA 2 - Peter Van der Linden
Thinking in JAVA - Bruce Eckel
JAVA How to Program - Deitel & Deitel
Beginning JAVA 2 - Ivor Horton ( WROX )

Thanks,

I'll take a look at them

Just JAVA 2 is the "best" (IMHO ) in explaining JAVA.
Thinking in JAVA is available as a free download, in .pdf format from
The Deitel & Deitel book and the Horton book all have loads of practice questions/programs

Good luck.

and an annoying piece of advice.

Don't ignore c++ (and other more prickly topics) for java
because java is easier. The market is about to be flooded
with new java grads. Brace yourself buckaroos.
