I have 6 dorms with all 4507 Catalyst Switches. I am getting ready to bring another dorm onto the network. Unfortunately, we do not have the money for a 4507. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a lower priced comparable switch. I was thinking of a 3560G? I really need to be able to do routing, vlans, and acls.

Thanks,
Becky

Becky,

If you are going to spend around $5,700 on a 3560G, you might want to look into just buying another 4507. For that $5,700 you are going to pay for 48 ports (gig mind you), you might want to see if you can't squeeze some more money from your source. The way I see it, you would pay $5,700 for a 3560G, and that's that, where as if you pay $7,000 for a 4507 chasis the blades, you have much more room for expasion and you have your routing capabillity.

If you can't under any circumstances pay for another 4507, look at a smaller version of the 4500 series (4506). You are going to pay a lot for 1 48 port switch (upwards of $6,800) and have no room for expanding.

If worse comes to worse, you can just buy the 3560G.

The 3560G with the IP image set will do routing, vlans, and acls. Actually, if you're just doing static routing, as it looks from your other post, I think the standard image will work for you...
