Hi, I'm trying to receive data from COM1 port so I use function inp(0x3f8) to get the data. But how do I know when the next data is ready for reading in the port? Do I need to
read a status register to find out?
Thanks.

do u want polling or interrupt driven?

If u want to poll then u've to check the status register and if u want it to be driven by interrupt then u've to write an ISR.

Thanks for your reply. but what register(I/O address) do I check if I use polling?

hey! do one thing is that read the book govind rajaaloo IBM PC and clones...
