Greetings all,

Please excuse my "noobness" but I'm looking for some help & advice on a receipt
printer. I am wanting a receipt printer that will print receipts virtually
identical to this (without
the Costco header and red numbers & boxes obviously).

It would be for home use and I would want to print receipts direct from my
PC rather than a cash register/till system. Also, I would want to print my
company logo on the top of each receipt.

Can you tell me whether the above is possible please and what receipt
printer I would need to print in that EXACT same style/font in the example
and what size receipt roll it is and type of paper etc.

Sorry, I don't know anything about them hence all my questions!

Hope someone knows what I'm wanting and I look forward to your soonest replies.

Thanks,

Rob

Sorry, forgot to add that I'm using Windows XP and I'm in the UK.

Get an IBM 4610-TI4 - this is what Costco uses and download the Windows drivers from the IBM support web site. A link will come later.

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for this info, it helps me a lot! I've had a good look on Ebay and don't see any 4610-T14s for sale at the moment (worldwide), just a T13 in the UK. Will the T13 do the same job?

Also I note that you day I'll need to download the driver for it which shouldn't be able problem, but seeing as these receipt printers appear to be supplied stand alone, what software would I need in order for me to design and type the receipt on my PC and then print it from my PC please?

Thanks,

Rob

You could just use Notepad or any POS program that will print to a Windows printer. There is an option to override the font - experiment with this and see what you like. The logos are easy to setup, too - just browse for the file and you're done.

Yes, the TI3 will do the job but may print slower than the TI4 will.

Just connect the printer to your computer (USB or serial) and the power supply to the wall and install the drivers and you're set!

Some links for you...

Brochure can be found at
Windows driver can be found at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/retail/poseng/4610/4610windrvxpb020400.exe
The driver ONLY works with Windows XP, WEPOS, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 server - NO NT, 98, 95, ME support!

Manuals can be found here

Hope this helps.

Thanks all!

I had this picture lodged in my head that to print receipts from your PC you would need some special software with a layout template or such like, but I'm now getting the impression that you compose your receipts in MS Word or whatever, just like you would with a normal printer for A4 paper etc?

I don't suppose anyone can tell me what the font and size is on the receipt link in my original post please? That would be most useful and save a lot of time trying to figure it out by trial and error.

Thanks once again.

Rob

Rob,

The fonts are on the printer itself and cannot be loaded onto your computer. You may compose your receipts in MS Word and print them to the IBM printer. If you select the option to override the font, then the receipt would be identical to the one in the link you provided.

select the option to override the font" - override it with what though, or does overriding it mean that it prints in the default font, eg. the same font as in the link?

Your help and patience is greatly appreciated MitchellW0214!

Rob

Overriding the font means that the receipt will print with the font in the link - there are 3 fonts, Font A, Font B, and Font C. See which one you like the best.

Go to the link below and scroll to page 36 and look at the dialog box there.

Please look through the whole manual - it will answer many of your questions.
