Looking into getting a DVD-R/RW (internal IDE - but could go SCSI)

Was wondering what brands people have had good or bad experiences with (model numbers would be nice too if possible).

In addition, has anyone had better luck with some disks as opposed to others?

Thanks again!

I have had good luck with Plextor and Samsung. The only ones I have experience with. HArd drives? I have used them all, no problems with any. Although the only hard drives that have crashed on me have been WD.... that was years ago though when the big drive was 850mb. Look for a 3yr warrantee just in case. The new WD Special Addition drives have it. Others may too.

Whoops, should've specified DVD recordable disks (not hard drives). Thanks for the info though (personally Maxtor and Western Digital have been very good to me, IBM on the otherhand...)

At the moment the multi format Sony DRU 500A is without dought the most versitile drive on the market (others are sure to follow suit), it covers both write once and rewrite, plus and minus formats, no obsolesence here!
Pioneer might also be a good choice for general archiving.

Great! Thanks all for the info - probably going to go with Sonys DRU 500AX - without the verbatim media that has reportadly caused some errors.

As the proud owner of a Sony DRX500-ULX I can honestly say that its well worth the monies.. by all means get the 500 or the newer 510 if you can find it. word of caution however.. The Veritas software is a bit sensitive and i"ve since removed all traces of it from my system and installed the newest ROXIO Easy CD in its stead.. the results? Fast painless trouble free running.

Sony 500A is the best and using NERO burning software is also the best. It has never let me down. Be sure and run the drive as a primary on a controller by itself if possible. The performance is better. I do that and went and bought a separate ide controller for my other drives that won't fit on the other MB controller. It really makes a difference. I have 4 HD's
