Rebuild from Junk Box, want boot

I built this system from some discarded and traded parts , starting with an ATX AL9 MoBo,
added an AMD K6-2, Diamond Multimedia NV3 AGP Video card, 20 GB HD, an old CD-ROM probably 8x and only had Win95 available,so loaded that. it seems to boot up and load windows then I usually get" while initializing IOS, windows protection error"
Restart system"

I feel I may have left something out of Config.sys or Autoexec.bat, Have Himem.sys on root of C:\ listed first.

Writing this for my 14 yr old who lost his notes , will have more info later.

Can someone help from what I have given here?

You don't say what speed the processor is, but guessing at the error I would say either a 350mHz or faster. Windows 95 and 98 have a problem with certain AMD K-6 processors, and a "fix" is listed on Microsoft's web. Here's what I found:
