Hi,

We're migrating our old PBX to a new MITEL system. We want to deploy the mitel phones before importing users configurations. When everything is in place, we would like to ask the users to reboot the phones themselves whitout asking them to unplug the cable.

My question: When the phone prompts "press hold to send PIN", is there a key combination that reboots the phone? Can we reboot all unassigned phones from the MCD?

Thank you.

Have you considered simply toggling the POE on the data switches?

Wow. No, didn't tought of that.

So simple... You Sir, kwbMitel, are welcomed.

Still, if there is another way, I'd be curious about it.

Until the phone is registered, there is no command to reset remotely.

couldn't you just ask them to register the phone, no reboot would be required.
e.g. *** <xtn> hold key. Assuming *** is the registration code set in the system options form.
Surely this is easier than rebooting and also easier than manually programming MAC addresses for every phone.

It's not that simple. Some people will have a new DN, some will use the same one, and we have a high volume of older/non-tech-ish oriented people, and we want to avoid them entering the wrong DN at the wrong place. We definitely want to avoid all of them calling support because they don't understand.

Could you not preprogram the MAC address in the appropriate form and then it shouldn't need registering at all. (I think as they are preprogrammed) doesn't matter if they plug in at the wrong place just shift the phone to the right place.

The problem with pre-programming the MAC is that programming has to be in place when the set is plugged in, otherwise the set will boot to the "enter PIN" prompt and requires a reboot if the MAC is programmed in afterwards. What it sounds like is they want to do is place the phones first, then program them to the controller, and then reset the phones after the MACs are programmed so they come up with the correct DN. In which case I think kwb's idea of resetting the POE/LAN switch port is the way to go.

That's exactly why. We will have additional manpower to deploy the phones, but they won't be available anymore when we expect the MCDs to be operational.

If you have not started yet, I've done the following in the past.

Scan/record all MAC's before deployment (portable barcode scanner)
Create dummy extensions with the MAC's already populated (use import spreadsheet in User and Devices)
Get the deployment team to record which desk/office gets which dummy extension
Once all sets are deployed, change the dummy extension to the actual extensions (import via Multiline IP device)

or you could just reset the PoE :)
