I am getting an error message as follows:

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device"

I have Windows XP Pro. Do I have something connected wrong to the motherboard? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Did you just get a new hard drive? Is it connected to a Promise Card? I've seen a few references to updating the BIOS....please provide more details.

More info needed. Is this a dual boot system? Did you just add a new hard drive or change mother board etc? Have you changed the boot order in the bios? How far if at all does it boot? Does it POST or attempt to load at all? Are the cables connected to the motherboard/hard drive etc? If so, is it installed correct?

WOW, that was fast....

It's a new system altogether. New motherboard, processor, etc. I had it "professionally" assembled. The person who put it together doesn't know how to solve the problem. When I boot from a cold start, it gives me the error message. It just posts the error message, it doesn't attempt to boot after that. If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, it boots to Windows XP fine. I did not alter the BIOS at all. It is still the same as when I received it. Anything else you need to know?

Is the Hard Drive detected under the BIOS? I'm going to assume it's got an AMIBIOS, since that's all I see when I do a search on it. Also, do you know what brand and model of motherboard it is. Also, check the boot order. Usually, the preferred is A:, (CD-ROM), (Hard Disk). I bet if you change it to A:, (Hard Disk), (CD-ROM) it will boot up normal.

Right in line with what pdxphx says, that should work. Stupid question here, but there is not disks in any drive such as the A or CD-Rom drives?

Also, in the BIOS there is a setting something like "Halt on Errors" Change that to none temaraily and see if it loads without the error
