Hi,

SQL Admin forum is very slow today... thought I might get a better response here.

My question is:

Is there a trick to doing filegroup backups? Here's my situation. I have a database with one primary data file and several filegroups. Each file group contains a very large table.

So I back up a single file group to a local drive. That works ok. Then, I delete the filegroup from the database, to recreate a recovery scenario. Data in the table has not, and will not change from the time of the backup to the time I will try to recover.

However, when I try to recover the filegroup (using 2005 management studio), I get all kinds of errors... such as, the primary data file isn't part of the file group backup. Ok, so then I appended it to the filegroup backup, still doesn't work.

I guess my question is, am I doing this right? If not, what am I missing here?

Thanks much
