i have a bizarre problem and i really have no idea what it could be.

i'm able to access most webpages, but certain ones wont load (home.microsoft.com, the default page when you install windows XP for example) and i'm not able to register at (when i hit register i get page cannot be displayed when it works fine on other pc's)

also, a friend of mine has an ftp site setup and when i try to connect or ping him i get no response, yet it works fine from other pc's.

finally, the most perplexing problem is related to aim. recently I haven't been able to sign on my regular screen name, it connects and appears to verify my name and password, but then it just sits there and after a minute tells me the service can't be reached. but other screen names work fine and my regular screen name works fine from other computers. also, i can't get aim express to load on my computer, i get page cannot be displayed like above.

i'm using comcast cable internet with my ip/dns configured automatically (dhcp) i'm using windows XP Pro (with sp1) and i have ALL firewall settings shut off. the only thing i can think of is i need a new driver for my nic, and i'm going to try to locate one on the internet now, but if anyone has any input on this i'd appreciate it.

update: tried to get my network driver from but that's another one of the websites i can't get to load, any idea why certain pages wont load for me? this is giving me a headache :/

I'm not sure about XP, but with 98 a hosts file could cause this. Try seaching for a hosts file and if found rename it to something else, reboot and try the pages.

I had the same problem when I was on DSL. The exact same problem seems to be!

I shut down firewals, routers switches, the whole nine yards and could not connect to MS Update.

I went to cable and all the problems stopped. Go figure. Perhaps comcast tech support could reset your modem (from the ground up)
