i cant go...i need to get a compiler but where can i get one that is free or cheap. i tired Miracle C but if werid and it doesnt work well.

Easy way out of this is to download this compiler.

I ran a quick test with this and it worked fine. It comes with all the standard headers you need.

how do you compile?

Try LCC as well. It has a decent development environment
and all the standard libs and headers.

dgc test.c

assuming your app is named test.c.

I believe the executable is in bin directory and called dgc. I can confirm you tomorrow, did this test on my work pc.
