reading fonts freeze

im trying to find out why everytime i try to run illustrator now it freezes in the splash screen where its attempting to read fonts. i am unable to fix this problem by reinstalling the software please help

Try reinstalling your fonts instead. Or, more to the point, take out all but the essential fonts, and if Illustrator starts up, then keep adding fonts bit by bit until it crashes again. Dump the offending font and things should be ok.

Have had this problem many times and have ended up
f-disking and re-installing. But this worked immediately.
Do a search of all your files and folders for
Adobefnt.lst
and
Adobefnt05.lst
Delete them (don't panic). Restart and Illustrator runs fine.
