Reading data from a Salter Weigh-Tronix

I need to read data from a Salter Weigh-Tronix PC-3632B weighing machine. I have no documentation. Does anyone know A) what the speed and protocol of the serial port should be set to and B) how to get the machine to send data?

Yes. Half a dozen emails not replied to, and calls not returned. Dont want to spend too much time on the phone to America from UK either! I hoped to get the info online from someone who's already done this stuff ... but looks like I may just have to pick up the phone again ...

I feel your pain. I have had to decipher lots of serial interfaces over the years.

Try and get hold of a breakout box. Get one that has LED indication of line status and switches to enable/disable comm. lines. some have provision for patching and swithing TD/RD lines.

Then the fun starts. Try different settings for word length, stop bits and baud rate. This is an arduous task. Take it methodically (7,1,2400) until you can get any output to your device. Any output lets you know that you are on the right track. It takes some time and hair pulling but you'll get it eventually.

Since the output interface is configurable from the scale, check the system paramters for the comm. settings. That will put you ahead. Then the wring should be a standard RS232 interface. Connect a laptop with a terminal interface program set to ANSI interface. You should be able to check for proper output that way.

Do you have the specs of the machine or maybe better a picture of it.

I'm responsible for the Industrial Sales of Avery Weightronix porducts for Belgium and as you may know Salter is part of it.

In the end I found out the codes and settings the hard way testing each possible combination. All now works fine and client is very happy.
