Can anyone help me resolve a problem in W2003 with a directory that has read only attribute set to on (checked but greyed out)?

I have a folder located on my RAID array (E:\HOMEHLTH) that has all it's attribute set to R/O. I've unchecked it and applied the changes (to the Folder, Files and Sub-folders) and the system runs through "Applying Changes" and so you would think the attributes are reset. However, if I click OK once complete and close the properties box and re-open it the attributes are right back at R/O set to on (checked but greyed out) and my application will not run properly.

I've also checked the Security tab and confirmed that I (administrator) has full access to the folder. All permissions are set to "Allow".

Any ideas? Someone please tell me it's something obvious.

This is "by design" acording to Microsoft. There is a MSKB about it for the same behavior on XP. You should actually still be able to write to it despite the check mark so long as you have set your NTFS permissions and have applied those changes to child objects using the advanced button.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark,

Thanks for your input. I have tried modifying the setting via the advanced button but once I do that and try to run the application displays the following error:

"File Lock Request returned Error 0. Timed Out:
TIME ELAPSED 0:00:45 FILE E:|HOMEHLTH\Patient\prof_72.dat.

No matter what I do it reverts to the R/O atribute.

Confused

Sounds like you don't have exclusive rights to the file.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.
