I have done a lot of research on this, and the answer has been 'no' so far, but does anyone know of any way to get data out of an Oracle .dmp file without an Oracle database? I would be prepared to do a lot of manipulation etc.

We found a utility called NXtract which seemed to work fine, unfortunately the free version only allows up to 5000 rows, and we didn't have time to buy the full version (it would involve lots of admin!).
We have managed to re-install our version of Oracle and are using the imp function. Oracle Lite is available as a free download for anyone who doesn't have access to a full version but I have no idea how well it would work in this situation.

What about using an OLE DB container or ODBC driver in something like Visual Basic/C++ or in the .Net framework????

What exactly do you mean? You just set up an ODBC link to the dmp file and then it can be read?
That sounds promising!

I've had a look, which driver would I use for a dmp file? Can I download one?

If you have Visual Studio .Ney, you have access already to the Oracle drivers (OLE container).

Don't know if it will read the type of file you want, as I am not familiar with Oracle. At least you can give it a try if you have visual studio .net.

You might also want to do a google search for Oracle dmp files or something similiar.

I've already searched a lot.

The way I understand it, ODBC drivers and the rest only connect to a server (and you don't need Visual Studio to use them). I don't have access to the server at all - just need to access the dmp file.
