Greetings!

I'm sure someone has done this before, but a friend of mine shared this amusing idea if you ever get bored.

Come up with any short phrase and go to . Translate your phrase into another language, then translate it back into English. The results can be incredibly funny. Here is an example...

Original Enlish text:
My cat, Fred, is two years old. He has fluffy, white and black fur, and is quite plump for its age. Every morning I am greeted by his purring and face licks. I like my cat.

Text in Spanish:
Mi gato, Fred, tiene dos años. El tiene piel vellosa, blanca y negra, y es bastante rellenito para su edad. Cada mañana que soy saludado por su ronronear y lamidos de cara. Quiero mi gato.

Text re-translated into English:
My cat, Fred, is two years old. The has black, white, and fluffy skin, and is enough rellenito for its age. Each morning that am greeted for its to purr and licks looking. I want my cat.

Some are better than others. What are some hilarious re-translations that you guys can come up with?

My cat was laying on my keyboard playing with the mouse. He got the cord all tangled around his tail.

Ebonics: Yo son, what's good? Tryin' ta hit up da mall in my fresh whip? Nah? Its whatever, fool.

If you lived around me (Harford County Maryland) Then instead of suburban and urban it would be: Outside of Edgewood -or- Edgewood)

Well, I've updated my signature. Now it's time to play with the Pledge of Allegeiance...

English: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to The Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Spanish: Prometo la lealtad a la bandera de los Estados Unidos de América, y a La República para que se para, una Nación bajo Dios, indivisible, con la libertad y la justicia para todo.
English: I promise the loyalty to the flag of the United States of America, and to The Republic so that itself for, a Nation low God, indivisible, with the liberty and the justice for all.

Re-translation of the Spanish edition of the Wikipedia, about Isaac Asimov's The Last Question

The story tells on the creation of the Multivac (a gigantic machine that if esparramava for kilometers) and the last question made for the humanity. “It would be possible to revert the entropy”. That is, it would be possible to make with that a cold universe and already without light, came back to possess heat again? It would be possible to the coal to come back to be tree?

This question is made for the first time in a trick between two friends who argue the fact of that with the discoveries of the Multivac, he would be possible they to get energy perpetual. The confusion if exactly gives for the fact of the universe not to be perpetual and therefore, it would not have in it energy for the eternity.

For Pebble In The Sky - an excellent book, incidentally, at least if read in English:

The book tells to the history of Joseph Schwartz, an old tailor of 62 years. Thanks to one it has caused an accident occurred in a laboratory next to where it walked, Schwartz is carried in the time, going to stop many and many years in the future. The year in question is 827 EG (Era Galáctica) and how much time if passed since 1949 (the origin), the book does not tell, but the Land now is an old planet radioátivel. For the majority of the scientists of the Galactic Empire, the sprouting of the humanity if gave in dispersed way, in all the planets. Already for the archaeologist Bel Arvardan, this is not truth; the humanity would have appeared only in a planet and later if spread by the galaxy. Following its theories, it she decides to search the Land, a planet where its people (a slag for the galaxy) said to be the origin of the race human being.

I guess some things really do get lost in the translation. [lol]

English;
picia ... If I am interpreting your post correctly, you have a part which has two surface bodies perpendicular to each other and you want to add a co-ordinate system to each surface. From here on I do not understand what you are wanting to do.

Are the surfaces created with a sketch?
Is it a 2D or 3D sketch?
Can you use the sketch geometry to determine the relationship to the origin?

If you can explain what you are trying to achieve, we may be able to help more.

Well I just had to try English->French->English for this;

The original is here
Code:
Oh, say the can that you see, by the light of the first dawn,
this that so proudly we hailed to the last gleaming of the twilight?
Of which scratch them wide and brilliant stars, by the perilous fight,
ON the walls that we looked at, therefore to flow were gallamment?
And the red brightness of the rockets, the bombs bursting in the air,
Given the proof by the night that our flag was again there.
O says, that the cheek banner the principal róle nevertheless vague spangled
ON the earth of the free one and the house of the courageous one?

On the shore, weakly seen by the mists of the deep one,
Where the host of the haughty enemy in dreads the silence rests,
which is that that the breeze, on the towering soaks,
As it blows irregularly, conceals now, unveils now?
Now it catches the glimmer of the first ray in the morning,
In full reflected glory shines now on the stream:
« THIS IS the étoile-spangled banner! O can it a long time ripples
ON the earth of the free one and the house of the courageous one.

And where this band is that to praise swore
if That the war ravaging and the confusion of the fight
A house and a country we must leave non more?
Their blood eliminated their pollution of the step dégoutante.
No refuge could save lacquered it and the slave
Of the flight terror, or the obscurity of the grave:
And the étoile-spangled banner in triumph the wave of doth
ON the earth of the free one and the house of the courageous one.

Oh! thus the being never, when freemen will hold itself
Between their liked houses and the desolation of the war!
Happy with the victory and peace, be able the earth sky helped
Rents the Strength that this hath did and we preserved a nation.
Then conquer have us, when our cause it is just,
And this is our motto: « In God is our confidence. »
And the étoile-spangled banner in the triumph will ripple
ON the earth of the free one and the house of the courageous one!

I tried this with my sig:

Spanish: It be put not in the matters of dragons, For you are crunchy, and good with the mustard.

French: Not to mix in the matters of dragons, For you are crunchy, and good with the mustard.

German: You do not interfere are in the matters of the dragon, for you crisp, and well with mustard.

Italian: To involve ITSELF not in the business of dragons, For her it is the crunchy, and good with the mustard.

Dutch: You do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, Before you are knapperig and good with mustard.

Portuguese: Not interfere-itself in the business of dragons, For you yourselves crunchy, and good with mustard.

Russian: Interfere not with affairs of dragons,
For you are crust, and good with mustard.

Apparently dragons and mustard translate fairly easily, while meddling, affairs and crunchy do not.

Tracy Dryden

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons,
For you are crunchy, and good with mustard. [dragon]

Nice contribution, stackdump. But how do you translate from English to some other language, in standard IE6? Or can't you without special add-ons?

Lincoln's Gettysburg Address (English ==> French ==>> English):

Four scores and seven years ago our fathers brought forward on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and devoted to the suggestion that all men are created the equal one.

Now we engaged in a big civil war, trying if this nation, or any nation conceived if and so devoted, the can endures a long time. We met on a big battle field of this war. We came to dedicate a portion of this field, as a last abode for those that gave here their lives that this nation could live. It adjusts completely and correct that we must do this.

But, in a bigger direction, we cannot dedicate -cannot consecrate us -cannot revere us -this ground. The courageous men, inhabitant and dead, that fought here, the consecrated, far above our poor strength to add or diminish. The world will do the small grade, or a long time to remember that we say here, but it never can forget that they did here. This is for we to live it, rather, here to be dedicated to the unfinished work that they that fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. This is rather for here to have dedicated us to the big task remaining before we -that of these honored dead one take us the increased devotedness to this cause for which they gave the last measure a lot of devotedness -that we extremely résolvons here that these deaths will not be dead in vain -that this nation, under God, will have a new liberty birth -and this government People, by the people, for the people, not perish of the earth.

Harald Hardrada, Spanish version translated to English:
Harald III Haardrade (1015 - 25 of September of 1066), king of Norway (1047-1066), descendant of Harald I (the one of the beautiful hair). Also known like Harald Hardrada, Harald Hardraade, or Harald Haarderade, this nickname also meant the Ruthless one, being known as the hard King of hand after ascending to the throne...

It fought with certain successes and failures in the battles by the Danish throne of Sweyn II (1045-62). It extended the possessions of Norway occupying the Orcadas islands, the Shetland, and the Hébridas, and founded the city of Oslo around year 1050.

In his eagerness to conquer more territories it returned to declare the war to the Danish, simultaneously who their anxieties of being able took it to put their eyes beyond the North Sea. In 1066, Harald was united to Tostig, count of Northumbria, to fight against the brother of this one, Harold II of England and to distribute England. Nevertheless, he was defeated and dead the 25 of September of 1066 in the battle of the bridge of Stamford.
