Could anyone tell me the best way to reconfigure an NT 4.0 Server. The person who originally set it up has put some programs that have 'ever-expanding' data directories on C: We clear these out periodically, but feel that it could only be a matter of time until we are unable to clear enough space. We have C: D: E: drives. E: has 17gb and so we would like to take 2gb off and move it over to C:
Any help greatly appreciated.

Note: I have used apps like Partition Magic, but though that there must be a safer way to do it on a server.

Real question is how is E: partitioned now? Does it have any part of the disk that is not partitioned? If so, you can simply use Disk Administrator to partition it as you wish. Does E:have to be re-partitioned?
Otherwise ther may be some 3rd party tools to do the trick. I haven't used any though.

As far as I know PartitionMagic and similar tools are the only way to do it.

Another option which I didn't see discussed is to uninstall the offending app and reinstall it on another drive. Pretty much all apps can be installed on any drive (some require a particular drive, but that's rare)

Thanks for the assistance. E: will have to be slightly resized and I just wanted the extra to go onto C:

vreiner: We have considered re-installing the app on another partition, although it is one of the classic 'it has been running without one problem for 4 years' scenarios and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I would use Partition Magic, but I don't know if it is safe to use on a server using SCSI drives and RAID 5.

Back to the drawing board then.

Powerquest also has a utility called Server Magic that will do what you want. Just remember before you try it to, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!! A+ MCP
