Hello,
I am a PBX administrator for a off shore bank and I administer a Nortel Meridian Switch. This morning for no particular reason more than 80% of the phones went out, but they had time andd date on them. We did a soft system iniatilize and all of the phones that were a problem came back on. There was another problem now with a PRI T1 card and all of the channels were MBSY. We called the exchange to have them reset it, and even after they did this, the PRI card would not come off MBSY. All of the users on this card were getting muted or calls that were coming from outside were not able to be heard by persons receiving calls.

We then disable the card and the DCH channel and then reseated the card and then enabled the card and the DCH channel again. This did not work and it was not until we rebooted the system that the card was released and then came back in IDLE status. Can someone plese tell me what may have happen and based on this evidence what test can I run or look at to find out what happened and possibly prevent this from happening again?

Based upon your description I suggest checking the history file for errors that may have occurred about the time that the problem(s) began. Data corruption occurs to me as one possible cause.

Another thing I suggest is to look for possible environmental causes first (Power fluctuations, interrupted grounding, temp/humidity out of tolerances, condition of the PBX, etc).

In either case, if you've not checked these things before, you'd be best served by having someone who knows what to look for check out your system.

Regards,
Harry

Thanks alot,
Which LD can I go into to check the history file for errors?
