Hi There.

My question is as follows.

I am running MSAcess 2000.

I am running an accounting system that is MSACESS based.

I have a materials module that re-links the tables for this module.

However, everytime you the user starts the material module, it takes approx. 7 minutes to re-link.

There are 4 users using this program that has several modules.

The front end is located on each user's computer, the backend is on the server.

Any ideas of why it takes so long and what can be done about it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

G'day Remou, the company I'm working for has an awful directory structure on the server resulting in the back-end being in something like "K:\IT Services\Projects\Queensland\widget projects\Current Version\Database\Backend data"

Yeah, dont even get me started! But seriously, is the path likely to slow things even more? If so this could be the excuse I've been looking for to restructure the file tree...

Cheers Remou, got enough from that link to test some stuff out and hopefuly justify a radical change! Good on ya :)

Hi there,
Just run into the same issue, very slow relinking to the backend. I found in my case that if the backend is locked down (.ldb) the situation occurs. To get rid of this, you relink the first linked table, open it (gives a persistent connection), and then relink the rest of the linked tables. Result: fast relinking as if the backend was not in use. Of course I didn't figure out this myself. One the sites that helped me:

Hello people.

Thanks for your responses.

I found the issue.

I had a linked excel spreadsheet that for some reason caused the relinking of all the MSACCESS tables to be very slow.

Perhaps it was being held exclusively even though sharing was on.

Once I removed the linked spreadsheet, linking was back to its normal speed.

Thanks again for your help.

Jeff
